These are a few tips to help make you look and sound as good as possible for your episode. As many of these that you could nail down would be extremely helpful to give our viewers the best viewing and listening experience! First things first though, download ZOOM here if you don’t have it already.
Tip 1: Good Lighting
Good lighting is the easiest way to make yourself look good on video. Not everyone has nice video lights lying around so the best source of light would be a big window. Make sure you’re sitting with the window in front of your face, not behind you. If its night time, jus make sure you’re in a well lit part of your house or where ever you are and make sure you don’t have a light directly above your head.
Tip 2: Camera Angle
The best angle for the camera is to have it at eye level. Try not to look down at having your phone on your lap or anything. If you have to, use books or a table to prop up your phone or computer.
Tip 3: Use Headphones If Possible
The closer the microphone is to you, the better the sound quality. The easiest way to do that is to use headphones or wireless earbuds since the mic on them is much closer to your mouth than if you were sitting a couple of feet away from your computer or phone. The way Zoom works is that whoever is speaking loudest will come through and it’ll automatically lower everyone else. Since you’re our guest people want to hear from you more than us so this is the best way to go about that.
Tip 4: Make sure you have a charged battery
If you’re on a phone or laptop, make sure your battery is charged or at least plugged into a charger. The last thing we need is for you to drop out in the middle of a live episode and have to wait 10 minutes to get a charger and have your phone or laptop start back up again.
Tip 5: Make Sure Your Signal Is Good
Be sure to be in a good place with a good signal. If you’re on your phone, sometimes the best bet is to turn off your wifi and use your cell signal instead since other people using the wifi at home can change your connection speeds. If your connection slows down, it’ll start cutting out your audio and video feed. We’ll do a test a few minutes before your episode, but just check this before we even do that.
